Silicon Carbide (SiC) Adoption Accelerates in EV Charging: Tonghe Technology and 9 Global Players Roll Out High-Power SiC Charging Modules

by hangjiashuosandaiban·May 27, 2026

Recently, the penetration of Silicon Carbide (SiC) technology in the EV charger sector has been steadily accelerating, becoming a core trend in the industry's technological upgrade. On the one hand, Tonghe Technology, a domestic charging module enterprise, is ramping up the capacity construction of SiC charging modules, with its planned 3-million-unit high-power charging module project advancing steadily.

On the other hand, over the past six months, nine leading domestic and overseas enterprises, including Inspur Smart Technology, Bull, ABB, and KSTAR, have intensively focused their efforts. They have successively launched innovative products such as high-power charging modules equipped with SiC devices, continuously commercializing SiC technology applications and driving the battery swapping and charging industry to iterate and upgrade towards higher efficiency, higher power, and lower energy consumption.

Tonghe Technology: 3-Million-Unit Charging Module Project Adopts SiC

On May 23, according to "Shijiazhuang Gaoxin Release," the first phase of Tonghe Technology's high-power charging module project, located in the Shijiazhuang High-tech Zone, has entered its final stage, with the main structures of four buildings, including the production building, already topped out.

The article reveals that the new factory will focus on breaking through key technologies such as intelligent manufacturing of fully automated charging and discharging modules across all processes. The automation rate of the production line will be increased to 85%, approaching top international standards. Meanwhile, the yield rate of key components such as SiC power semiconductors can reach 99.5%, with costs 15% to 20% lower than those of international brands.

It is reported that the project construction is carried out in two phases. It is expected that by 2030, the entire project will reach full production capacity, with an annual production capacity of 3 million high-power charging modules.

Dong Jiang, Director of the Public Affairs Department of Tonghe Technology, introduced that equipment installation for the first phase of the project will begin at the end of the month, with formal production expected to start in July. At that time, the annual production capacity of high-power charging modules will exceed 1.8 million units. The company's existing annual production capacity for charging modules is only 300,000 units. The commencement of this project will effectively break through the capacity bottleneck and enhance the company's core competitiveness.

Xu Weidong, Deputy General Manager of Tonghe Technology, further revealed that the first phase of the project will mainly produce flagship products—the 30kW and 40kW charging modules. These two products are currently widely supplied to EV charger operators such as Star Charge, Haihuide, and KD Intelligent.

The official website shows that Shijiazhuang Tonghe Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. was founded in 1998 and successfully listed on the ChiNext board of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange on December 31, 2015. The company is mainly engaged in the R&D, production, sales, and services of power electronics industry products, with its product portfolio including charging modules, thermal management power supplies, and energy storage PCS (Power Conversion Systems), etc.

In 2025, Tonghe Technology achieved an operating revenue of 1.557 billion RMB, a year-on-year increase of 28.78%. R&D investment reached 138 million RMB, and the sales volume of charging and swapping modules exceeded 600,000 units. In November of the same year, Tonghe Technology launched the "Taihang" series of ultra-fast charging modules, covering three power categories: 40kW, 60kW, and 80kW.

It is understood that the weighted efficiency of this series of modules is ≥97.1%. Adopting a fully double-sided potting process and SiC devices, it can operate across a wide temperature range from -40℃ to +75℃. The 40kW module can control the noise during full-load operation to below 60dB, effectively reducing the operating noise of the cabinet.

9 Companies Concentrate on Deploying SiC Charging Technology

According to incomplete statistics, in addition to Tonghe Technology, multiple companies have used SiC technology in battery swapping and charging systems as well as charging modules over the past six months. Manufacturers such as Inspur Smart Technology, Bull, ABB, KSTAR, Chery, Alpitronic, Autel, Yonglian Technology, and Anboshi have launched innovative products, jointly accelerating the application and implementation of SiC power devices.

Inspur Smart Technology

On May 13, Inspur Smart Technology showcased its various dual-gun all-in-one machines and DC charging piles at the Shanghai Charging and Swapping Exhibition.

Among them, the 400kW dual-gun all-in-one machine dedicated to heavy trucks adopts SiC devices, with a maximum output current of 300A per gun and an output voltage of DC 200~1000V. The peak efficiency is ≥97%, which can meet the fast charging needs of heavy trucks, logistics vehicles, buses, and dump trucks.

Bull

At the exhibition on the same day, Bull exhibited multiple megawatt-series ultra-fast chargers. Among them, Bull's 3MW heavy truck megawatt-level high-power group charger is equipped with a 60kW fully potted SiC module, supporting 2 to 24 gun configurations and allowing up to 6 guns to charge simultaneously. In addition, the device features a 3000kW shared power pool, with a peak efficiency of ≥96.5%. The output voltage covers 150-1000Vdc, and the constant power range is 300-1000Vdc. For each gun, users can choose 300A/400A air-cooled or 600A liquid-cooled terminals.

ABB

In early May, ABB E-mobility launched the OM X series at the ACT Expo 2026. This is a distributed charging system mainly applied in bus depots, logistics hubs, and public charging corridors. The system adopts liquid-cooled SiC modules to support the highly efficient operation of charging stations.

Earlier in late April, ABB E-mobility also introduced the M-series modular air-cooled split DC charging architecture. This series is based on ABB's A-series architecture, providing a fully integrated solution for public transport charging stations. Both product series utilize an internally developed Silicon Carbide power electronics platform. ABB stated that this platform has been commercially deployed since 2024.

KSTAR

On April 21, KSTAR announced on its official WeChat account the launch of a 2.5MW DC charger for heavy trucks. The product adopts a SiC MOSFET design, with a peak efficiency of >97%, zero standby loss, flexible power scheduling, and coverage for multiple vehicle models.

In June last year, "Expert Review on Third-Generation Semiconductors" reported that KSTAR released a 400kW high-protection DC all-in-one charger, in which the IP65 40kW charging module adopts a SiC MOSFET design.
