Surge in Orders for New-Gen BMW iX3: EVE Energy Secures Exclusive Supply for High-End 50L Large Cylindrical Battery Version

by gaogonglidian·September 23, 2026

The new generation BMW iX3 has seen a surge in orders, ushering in a new wave of volume growth for large cylindrical cells.

A range of nearly 1,000 kilometers is one of the most prominent product labels for the top-trim new generation BMW iX3; EVE Energy's exclusive supply of large cylindrical cells for it is a supply chain signal hidden behind the configuration sheet.

Since pre-sales began in late August, the battery supply landscape for the new generation BMW iX3 has consistently drawn attention.

While both are large cylindrical versions, the 40L adopts a diversified supply system, whereas the top-trim50L, equipped with a 113.4 kWh battery, has exclusively chosen EVE Energy.

Synchronized sales data shows that the 50L accounts for 40% of early orders, with the 40L accounting for approximately 45%.

This means that versions equipped with large cylindrical batteries have entered the core sales range of the iX3. What EVE Energy is undertaking is not a symbolic supply for small-scale, high-trim models, but a core share that requires the actual realization of capacity, yield rate, and delivery stability.

Prior to this, EVE Energy had already entered the supply system for the European debut version of the BMW iX3, helping it become a massive hit in the European market: the iX3 has captured one-third of BMW's new pure electric orders in Europe, with one in every two new orders for the X3 family being for the pure electric iX3, and total orders are about to exceed 100,000 units.

Strong demand in the European market has driven BMW to ramp up its efforts in the Chinese market. Capitalizing on this momentum, EVE Energy has not only participated in the supply of the 40L for the Chinese market but also secured the exclusive supply for the top-trim 50L.

From the European debut to the Chinese top-trim model, EVE Energy's position in BMW's large cylindrical supply system has further advanced.

A question worth asking is: BMW has introduced multiple suppliers for the new generation of large cylindrical batteries, so why is it EVE Energy that has taken the lead in reaching the stage of mass production and delivery for the top-trim iX3?

The answer lies not only in the parameter sheet of a single cell.

Tracing its development journey over the past decade, the answer gradually becomes clear:

First, using five years of validation to answer the 15-year reliability question; then, accumulating manufacturing and application data through pioneering mass production; and finally, realizing the cell capabilities on actual vehicle roads.

Five Years of Repeated Validation to Fulfill the 15-Year Reliability Commitment

The cooperation between EVE Energy and BMW began nearly a decade ago.

In 2017, BMW conducted a global search for next-generation large cylindrical battery suppliers; in 2018, EVE Energy entered the candidate list; in 2020, both parties officially launched the joint R&D of 46-series large cylindrical cells.

BMW's admission standards cover an energy density of 280 Wh/kg, a defect rate at the PPB (parts per billion) level, and 15 years of in-vehicle reliability.

These requirements do not point to extreme performance in a single test, but rather to whether a battery can continuously maintain safety, stability, and consistency throughout the entire lifecycle of the vehicle.

In particular, the 15-year in-vehicle reliability target means the battery must withstand repeated testing through long-term cycling, different climates, and complex operating conditions.

During this long-term research and development effort, the EVE Energy project team did not pursue short-term rapid delivery, but instead focused on the repeated refinement and long-term validation of the cell solutions.

The 43mm solution initially demonstrated by both parties was readjusted after half a year of testing. Starting from the vehicle's space, structure, and performance requirements, the team re-evaluated the relationship between the pack, module, and cells. After another year of repeated trials, the 46mm diameter was finally determined.

In April 2021, the first batch of A-samples rolled off the production line; upon entering the B-sample stage, the R&D team continued to tackle challenges related to the explosion-proof valve, welding, and mass production yield rate.

Subsequently, over a period of five years, EVE Energy invested in over a thousand test vehicles and tested tens of thousands of cells, completing the 15-year reliability validation through accelerated testing.

What the five-year validation resolved is whether the cells can stably meet BMW's standards during long-term use.

Its value cannot be summarized solely by a set of performance parameters; rather, it depends on whether range, fast charging, safety, and environmental adaptability can be achieved simultaneously.

From rapid pressure relief under extreme conditions, to battery pack structural protection, and further to discharge and self-heating performance in a minus 30°C environment, BMW's validation of EVE Energy's large cylindrical cells covers a variety of real-world scenarios that users might face.

These tests translate the 15-year reliability target into specific usage scenarios, also providing a quality foundation for the adoption of EVE Energy's large cylindrical cells in the top-trim 50L.

In 2023, EVE Energy received perfect scores from four clients, including BMW; in 2026, after BMW executives visited the Shenyang plant, they evaluated it as a "perfect model".

Passing long-term validation means the product has qualified to enter BMW's supply system. Whether the validated product can be stably installed in mass-produced vehicles also depends on the consistency of batch manufacturing and continuous supply capability.

One Step Ahead in Mass Production, One Layer Deeper in Barriers

In 2023, EVE Energy took the lead in commercializing 46-series large cylindrical cells, with applications covering sedans, SUVs, MPVs, and high-end new energy off-road vehicles.

Being the first in China to achieve mass production of 46-series large cylindrical cells has brought EVE Energy more than just a time advantage.

Earlier mass production means experiencing large-scale manufacturing, adaptation to different vehicle models, and real-road operation earlier, which also means being able to accumulate more comprehensive product data than latecomers.

As of July 2026, EVE Energy's large cylindrical cells have been cumulatively installed in over 297,000 vehicles, among which over 4,000 vehicles have traveled more than 50,000 kilometers, and the maximum operating mileage of a single vehicle exceeds 309,000 kilometers, maintaining zero safety incidents.

The installation in 297,000 vehicles proves that the product has entered large-scale application; the 4,000 vehicles with over 50,000 kilometers provide continuous operation samples; and the maximum 309,000 kilometers of a single vehicle further validates long-term usage performance.

The data generated by these real vehicles ensures that product reliability no longer relies solely on laboratory deduction, and also constitutes an application data barrier for EVE Energy that is difficult to catch up with in the short term.

During the same period, EVE Energy's shipments of 46-series large cylindrical cells ranked first in the country, and its shipments of cylindrical batteries in China ranked first overall.

This first-mover advantage is built upon long-term manufacturing accumulation.

As of January 2026, EVE Energy has cumulatively shipped over 4.7 billion cylindrical batteries, covering 18, 21, and 26-series small cylindrical cells as well as 46-series large cylindrical cells, while maintaining a quality record of "zero leakage and zero false welding."

Its large cylindrical production capacity has also increased from manufacturing 200 R&D samples in three months to a daily output of 450,000 cells.

After the scale increase, manufacturing consistency has become critical.

In the battery pack assembly process, EVE Energy controls the verticality and position tolerance of the cells to the hundreds of micrometers level, and through 99% full-area foaming, achieves a battery pack torsional stiffness of over 15,000 N·m. Maintaining micrometer-level precision even after scale expansion is the key to the stable delivery of high-end vehicle models.

In January 2026, EVE Energy's cylindrical battery plant was recognized as the world's first lighthouse factory for cylindrical batteries, implementing over 40 AIoT, physical simulation, and large model solutions, achieving a 300 PPM production takt and micrometer-level precision control.

Real-world operation data proves that the product can be used stably, while capacity and manufacturing precision answer whether the enterprise can ensure continuous supply. This mass production capability has already been translated into actual delivery in BMW's European projects.

This capability has also entered BMW's global production system.

At the end of July, the 50,000th iX3 rolled off the production line at BMW's Debrecen plant in Hungary, setting the record for the fastest capacity ramp-up for a new BMW plant. To meet the rapidly growing demand, the plant has shifted to double-shift production ahead of schedule.

As the initial supporting supplier for the European version of the iX3, EVE Energy's large cylindrical cells have also entered the stage of hundreds of thousands of units in production and delivery alongside the complete vehicles.

To support BMW's global delivery, EVE Energy has formed a dual-base layout in Shenyang and Hungary.

At the same time, the establishment of a dual-channel of "traditional route + Arctic route" supports the product reaching Hamburg in as quickly as about 20 days, reducing both transportation time and one-way carbon emissions by approximately 50%, while enhancing the stability of cross-border logistics.

From the European debut to the exclusive supply for the Chinese top-trim model, EVE Energy's core supply position is thus supported by real vehicle installations, large-scale capacity, and cross-regional delivery.

Stepping Out of the Factory, the Answer Is Handed Over to the Road

Reliability validation shows that the product can withstand long-term use, and large-scale mass production demonstrates that EVE Energy can ensure stable supply. Ultimately, what determines the confidence of automakers and consumers is still the actual performance of the battery after installation in the vehicle.

In June 2026, during the Qinghai Lake loop test featuring altitude changes and a mix of blizzards, heavy rain, and intense sunshine, the BMW iX3 traveled 805.8 kilometers without recharging, with an energy consumption of 12.6 kWh per 100 kilometers and a remaining battery level of 2%.

In August, the iX3 50L traveled 1,030.2 kilometers from Shenyang to Beijing without recharging, arriving with a remaining battery level of 5%.

The two real-world tests in China validated low energy consumption performance in complex environments and an actual range of over 1,000 kilometers, demonstrating that the battery's energy density, output efficiency, and thermal management capabilities have been translated into comprehensive excellent performance on real roads.

Meanwhile, the iX3 50L achieves a maximum charging power of 400 kW, adding up to 418 kilometers of range in 10 minutes, further complementing the fast recharging experience.

The two real-world tests present complete vehicle results, and their technical foundation comes from the cell structure and material system.

Compared to the previous generation of prismatic cells, the new generation of cylindrical cells has increased volumetric energy density by over 20%, improved vehicle range and charging speed by up to 30%, and reduced high-voltage battery costs by up to 50%.

At the same time, EVE Energy's core technology reduces cell internal resistance by 60% and increases charge and discharge power by 100%, supporting 10C fast charging to charge from 10% to 70% SOC in 5 minutes; the silicon-based anode further pushes up energy density, providing a foundation for the vehicle to achieve a range of over 1,000 kilometers.

The significance of these technologies is not to push any single metric among energy density, C-rate, or power to the extreme.

For a vehicle that has truly entered the mass production and sales stage, range, fast charging, safety, lifespan, cost, and manufacturing consistency must be achieved simultaneously.

Any single shortcoming could cause a seemingly high-performance cell to lose the opportunity for large-scale vehicle installation.

This is also why the exclusive supply for the top-trim new generation BMW iX3 50L is worth attention.

It is not an accidental result brought about by a leading parameter, but the result of several thresholds being crossed consecutively:

The 15-year reliability standard solves the problem of whether the product can be used long-term; pioneering mass production and installations in hundreds of thousands of vehicles solve the issues of manufacturing consistency and application data; the dual bases in Shenyang and Hungary solve the problem of cross-regional large-scale delivery; and ultimately, the complete vehicle road performance tests whether these capabilities are truly translated into the range, energy consumption, and recharging experience that users can perceive.

From the European debut version to the exclusive supply for the Chinese top-trim model, EVE Energy has gradually transformed a large cylindrical technology nomination into real mass production, large-scale delivery, and complete vehicle application.

This is also an answer currently given by BMW in this new generation large cylindrical supply chain competition:

What high-end automakers ultimately choose is never just a cell with the highest parameters, but a manufacturing and delivery system capable of replicating technical performance onto every vehicle in a long-term and stable manner.

EVE Energy, having delivered its results, has also translated its first-mover advantage in large cylindrical cells into a key position in the global high-end automotive supply chain.
