Integrating Huawei, CATL, Qualcomm and ZF Supply Chain, FREELANDER 8 Builds AI All-Terrain SUV

by gaishiqiche·October 3, 2026

As the first mass-produced model under the FREELANDER brand, the FREELANDER 8 is configured around an extended-range powertrain, an 800V high-voltage platform, intelligent assisted driving, and an all-terrain chassis. Its supply chain also features the joint development participation of multiple external suppliers.

On September 3, 2026, the FREELANDER 8 was officially launched, with an official guide price of CNY 309,900 to CNY 399,900, and an equity price of CNY 289,900 to CNY 379,900, offering five-seat and six-seat layouts. The new car is the first mass-produced model under the "Joint Venture 3.0" model of Chery and Jaguar Land Rover. Enterprises such as Huawei, CATL, Qualcomm, and ZF participate in the supply of related technologies and components.

Power and Recharging: 800V High-Voltage Extended-Range Platform, CATL Qiaoyao Battery Onboard

In terms of power, the entire FREELANDER 8 lineup adopts an extended-range powertrain, equipped with a 1.5T four-cylinder range extender with a thermal efficiency of 45.79%. It is matched with a front and rear dual-motor four-wheel drive system, delivering a total system power of 610kW and a peak torque of 813N·m, achieving a 0-100km/h acceleration in as fast as 4.6 seconds.

The battery adopts the CATL Qiaoyao extended-range and hybrid all-terrain dedicated battery, with a capacity of 60.3kWh and a CLTC pure electric range of 310km. The new car's entire lineup adopts an 800V high-voltage platform, supports 6C charging, and can charge from 20% to 80% in as fast as about 12 minutes.

AI Intelligent Driving: Synergy of Huawei Qiankun ADS 5 and Intelligent All-Terrain System

In terms of intelligent driving, the entire FREELANDER 8 lineup is equipped with Huawei Qiankun ADS 5, and the high-end versions are equipped with an 896-line LiDAR. Huawei and FREELANDER jointly created the i-ATS intelligent all-terrain system, integrating LiDAR and visual perception with vehicle power and chassis control.

Meanwhile, ZF participates in the development of the AI road perception system, enabling the vehicle to recognize different road conditions such as mud and sand, and adjust modes in combination with all-terrain control strategies. The i-ATS does not directly adopt a standardized solution from a single supplier, but is led by FREELANDER to integrate technical capabilities such as Huawei's perception and ZF's chassis control.

This means that the intelligent capabilities of the FREELANDER 8 have been further extended from traditional road assisted driving to off-road scenarios.

Intelligent Cockpit: Qualcomm 8397 Automotive-Grade Chip Provides Computing Power Support

In terms of the cockpit, the FREELANDER 8 is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8397 automotive-grade chip. Compared with the previous generation 8295 platform, the CPU computing power is increased by 3 times, the GPU computing power is increased by nearly 3 times, and the NPU computing power is increased by 12 times.

The display system adopts a 15.6-inch Mini LED central control screen, and is equipped with a 46.3-inch remote display screen and a 17.3-inch rear ceiling screen, forming a multi-screen cockpit layout consisting of the front central control, remote display, and rear entertainment screens.

Chassis and Safety: Integration of Air Suspension, Continuous Variable Damping, and All-Terrain Control

In terms of chassis, the FREELANDER 8 adopts a dual-motor four-wheel drive system, and the entire lineup is equipped with a closed dual-chamber air suspension + CCD continuous variable damping shock absorbers, along with a front mechanical differential lock and ±10° rear-wheel steering.

Among them, the air suspension, CCD shock absorbers, and the i-ATS intelligent all-terrain system together form the foundation of the vehicle's chassis control. The vehicle can adjust suspension and power strategies according to different road conditions, adding intelligent control while retaining mechanical off-road capabilities.

Supply Chain Observation: Extending from Mechanical All-Terrain to "AI All-Terrain"

Based on currently available public information, the FREELANDER 8 has formed a relatively clear supply chain collaboration system.

In the battery, motor, and electronic control system, CATL provides the Qiaoyao extended-range and hybrid all-terrain dedicated battery; in the field of intelligent driving, Huawei Qiankun provides the ADS 5 and LiDAR perception solutions; ZF participates in AI road perception and chassis control; in the cockpit, Qualcomm provides the Snapdragon 8397 automotive-grade chip.

The FREELANDER 8 is led by FREELANDER in cross-supplier system integration, integrating Huawei's intelligent perception, ZF's chassis capabilities, and CATL's high-voltage extended-range hybrid technology at the vehicle level.

Overall, the core change in the FREELANDER 8 lies in the fact that: traditional all-terrain SUVs rely on mechanical hardware for off-roading, while the FREELANDER 8 further attempts to let AI perception participate in power and chassis control. This is also an important difference between its "intelligent all-terrain" technical route and traditional luxury SUVs.

To analyze the core product competitiveness of this all-terrain SUV, Gasgoo has systematically sorted out the information of core component suppliers for the FREELANDER 8, and industry friends are also welcome to communicate and continuously improve it together.
