On October 30, Seres released its financial report for the third quarter of 2026. The company recorded revenue of CNY 28.08 billion and net profit attributable to shareholders of CNY 1.42 billion, returning to profitability.

In the context of slowing growth in the NEV (New Energy Vehicle) sector this year, achieving financial profitability is no easy feat. While this figure itself is important, it is more critical to recognize that this is not an isolated positive development.

When viewing this financial report alongside Seres' recent operational actions, it becomes evident that four expectation gaps—fundamentals, brand, technology, and capital—are converging simultaneously through Seres' performance, collectively building a logic for fundamental recovery and value re-rating.

01Fundamentals: Return to Profitability and Efficiency Improvement

It is well known that the overall growth rate of NEVs declined rapidly in the first half of the year. From a market perspective, there are indeed many objective reasons, such as the reduction of subsidies and rising raw material costs. Among seven new EV startups in the first half of the year, only one was profitable. Data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers shows that the average profit margin in the domestic vehicle manufacturing segment hit a ten-year low in the first half of this year.

Against these industry backgrounds, the significance of Seres' return to profitability in this quarterly report is clear. After experiencing a temporary trough in the second quarter, Seres quickly turned losses into profits in the third quarter, proving its sustained profitability capability to the market.

Looking at operational data, Seres' efficiency has improved significantly. Inventory turnover rose to historic highs, with turnover days falling below 10. For comparison, the average inventory turnover days for independent Chinese automakers in2025 were approximately 50 days. Even Toyota, renowned for "lean production" and "zero inventory," maintains inventory turnover days around 35.

Cost control optimization is also evident. Seres' selling expense ratio decreased by 1.4 percentage points quarter-over-quarter in the third quarter. Absolute administrative expenses stood at CNY 2.45 billion, a year-over-year decrease of 5.1%.

Naturally, the core driver behind increased sales volume remains product strength. While the domestic passenger car market above CNY 500,000 declined by 17.3% year-over-year in the first half of the year, the AITO M9 maintained the top spot in sales among models priced above CNY 500,000 for four consecutive months. In September, insurance registrations reached 10,390 units, ranking first among all Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance models, confirming AITO's continued importance within the alliance.

Expectations remain clear. The AITO M9 Ultimate began deliveries in September, and the new M8 will launch on November 13. This new strong product cycle has raised performance expectations for the fourth quarter.

02Brand Positioning: Going Global and Shifting Coordinates

Sustaining sales during a downturn requires not only product strength but also long-term accumulated brand influence.

In April this year, UK-based brand valuation firm Brand Finance released the "Top 100 Global Automotive Brands 2026." AITO entered the list for the first time with a brand value of USD 3.448 billion, ranking first among Chinese luxury automotive brands and entering the global top 10 luxury brands. In the third quarter, authoritative industry agency Jielanlu released the H1 2026 Automotive Brand Development Confidence Index, where AITO once again secured the top spot overall, marking its fourth consecutive title.

Meanwhile, at the Paris Motor Show on October 12, AITO showcased the M9, M8, M7, and M6 models along with the Magic Cube Technology Platform, announcing entry into the European market in autumn 2027. Management revealed that the entire AITO lineup is progressing through EU WVTA E1 whole-vehicle type approval. Seres adheres to the highest standards throughout the process, maintaining a high-end globalization strategy.

High-end globalization facilitates differentiated product branding. On the day this news broke, Seres' A-shares hit the daily limit up at the close. Future markets will likely increase expectations regarding Seres' international expansion.

03Technological Foundation: R&D Implementation and Infrastructure Formation

Product strength and brand go hand in hand. Seres builds its brand power upon technological capabilities. Although selling and administrative expenses contracted significantly in this year's Q3 report, Seres did not reduce R&D investment. R&D expenses increased by CNY 630 million in the first three quarters, a year-over-year rise of 12.4%. The company saves where appropriate and spends where necessary, without cutting any R&D budget.

With sustained R&D investment, Seres' technological achievements are being implemented. The Magic Cube Technology Platform 2.0 integrates diverse powertrains, intelligent chassis, smart central hubs, cabin-driving coordination, and smart services. It is the first platform architecture in the industry compatible with three power modes: super-hybrid, pure electric, and ultra-hybrid.

Moreover, R&D surrounding the Magic Cube Technology Platform represents typical medium-to-long-term strategic positioning. Platform iterations will form a highly integrated, standardized modular system, ensuring the competitiveness of future Seres models while keeping costs under control.

For instance, the newly iterated Magic Cube Technology Platform will fully support L3 architecture. The first mandatory national standard for L3/L4 autonomous driving will officially take effect on July 1 next year. Seres, having pioneered the completion of the L3 technical loop and mass production preparation, is likely to seize the initiative in the next cycle.

Additionally, layouts in frontier businesses such as embodied intelligence are yielding results. The "Xiao Sai" robot has been deployed in inspection, logistics, and reception services across super factories, smart parks, and stores. The pricing logic for hard tech is gradually being validated.

The formation of these technologies is the result of Seres' long-term R&D investment and continuous strengthening of self-research. The more stable the foundation, the more capable the upper structures become.

04Capital Structure: Genuine Shareholder Support and Confidence Realization

Beyond financial statements, capital movements offer another answer. As of the Q3 report, Seres held cash and short-term investments totaling over CNY 46.6 billion, indicating no liquidity concerns.

Since the beginning of this year, Seres has intensified buybacks to reward investors. As of the Q3 report, cumulative shares repurchased totaled 17.5357 million, with a total amount of approximately CNY 983 million. Directors, senior management, and core teams have completed their plan to increase holdings of A-shares and H-shares by CNY 148 million, cumulatively acquiring over 6 million shares. All repurchased shares will be canceled to boost earnings per share.

As Graham famously said, the market is a voting machine in the short term and a weighing machine in the long term. Every cent spent on buybacks and insider purchases counts toward the weight measured by the scale. Management is using real funds to signal confidence in long-term development.

Great changes begin with small signs. The convergence of Seres' four expectation gaps points in the same direction; updating market perception is usually just a matter of time.
