Micro-LED Players Rush Into AI Short-Reach Optical Interconnect: Yuanxu Semiconductor’s Strategic Partnership Signals Industry Shift

by hangjiashuoDisplay·July 17, 2026

Recently, Yuanxu Semiconductor Technology Co., Ltd. and Tiankai Fulai Sensing (Tianjin) Semiconductor Co., Ltd. have reached a strategic partnership.

The two parties will conduct joint R&D on "massive parallel testing technology for micro-nano optoelectronic arrays" to build an integrated high-precision testing solution for a new generation of optoelectronic array devices, accelerating Yuanxu Semiconductor's industrialization process in the two core tracks of Micro-LED ultra-high-definition display and AI short-reach parallel optical interconnect.

According to statistics from Hangjia Shuo Display, a total of 12 LED companies have reached partnerships regarding optical communication this year.

Partnership Enhances Micro-LED Production Efficiency and Yield Control Level

Through this partnership, the two parties will leverage technological synergy and resource sharing to solve the efficiency bottleneck in high-end optoelectronic array inspection. Yuanxu Semiconductor will further improve the production efficiency and yield control level of its Micro-LED products. Meanwhile, it will provide support for performance verification, reliability testing, and scaled mass production of new chips and modules in the AI optical interconnect field, comprehensively strengthening product commercialization and market expansion capabilities in the two core tracks.

In response to the rigid market demand for short-reach optical interconnects driven by the explosion in AI computing power, Yuanxu Semiconductor is cross-applying its core technologies accumulated in the display field—such as epitaxial processes, array processing, and glass-based packaging—to the optical communication industry. The company has independently developed a parallel optical transmission solution based on Micro-LED arrays, focusing on the emerging market of short-reach optical interconnects within AI servers and data centers to create a second growth curve for the enterprise.

According to Hangjia Shuo Display, Yuanxu Semiconductor focuses on domestic glass-based Micro-LED pixel-level integrated packaging. Relying on its mass production experience with MOG technology, it has taken the lead in completing a complete industrial closed loop from technology R&D to scaled delivery. Coupled with the capacity support of its Tianjin smart manufacturing plant, full-process quality control system, and global customer resources, the company continues to promote the popularization of Micro-LED technology in high-end consumer scenarios.

Summary

Looking at the multiple landed cases in 2026, the trend of the LED industry crossing over into optical communication and CPO is becoming increasingly clear, presenting two main characteristics:

China focuses primarily on technological breakthroughs and ecosystem building. Domestic manufacturers mainly enter the track through diverse paths such as industry-university-research cooperation, cross-industry chain alliances, and technological resource integration. Currently, most technological solutions are in the sample development and customer verification stages, with the core goal of making up for the shortcomings in the domestic optical interconnect industry chain and achieving technological autonomy and controllability.
Overseas enterprises, on the other hand, focus on the co-construction of technical standards and solution implementation, gradually influencing industry technical specifications. 2028 is a critical node. Multiple companies have set 2028 as the time target for trial mass production/scaled mass production, and the industry is expected to usher in a concentrated commercialization turning point in two years.
