Insights from an EIA Report: How the Dexterous Hand Industry is Entering a New Phase of Scaled Manufacturing

by MIRruigongye·August 25, 2026

The humanoid robot sector is currently experiencing surging popularity. Recent major industry events include: Unitree Robotics officially listed on the STAR Market, with its market capitalization briefly exceeding 440 billion RMB on the first day; the 2026 World Robot Conference grandly opened in Beijing, where the focus of new product competitions has shifted from "showing off skills" to "practicality," with home services and industrial manufacturing scenarios becoming the main battlegrounds.

Meanwhile, the dexterous hand, known as the "last centimeter of the robot," has seen a significant surge in attention. According to the latest data from MIR, China's total industry orders for dexterous hands exceeded 20,000 units in 2025. As flexibility and fine manipulation capabilities steadily advance, more application scenarios will be equipped with dexterous hands. The shipment volume is expected to reach 200,000 units by 2030. With broad market prospects, the industry is accelerating its transition from concept to scaled implementation.

It is precisely this critical breakthrough in the "last centimeter" that elevates the dexterous hand from a mechanical accessory to an intelligent terminal. At the 2nd World Humanoid Robot Games, Linker Hand became the focal point of the event with two piano-playing robots equipped with Linker Hand high-performance dexterous hands and self-developed robotic arms. The "duet" performance on a grand piano brought the audience an immersive experience that truly possessed a "musical soul." This application intuitively demonstrates that dexterous hands are evolving from "being able to grasp" to "being able to express."

As one of the earliest enterprises to deploy in the domestic dexterous hand field, Linker Hand is accelerating its transition from technical demonstrations to scaled mass production. Its wholly-owned subsidiary, Linker Hand, has built an intelligent production line with an annual capacity of 60,000 dexterous hands in the Beijing Robot Industrial Park (Changping). This production line recently entered the small-batch production phase, serving as a typical sample for observing the industrial implementation of domestic dexterous hands.

Recently, the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for this project has been officially disclosed. Below are the core highlights of the original report.

01. Overall Project Overview: 410 Million RMB Investment, Focusing on the Consumer-Grade Market

According to the EIA report, the total investment for this project amounts to 410 million RMB, of which 340,000 RMB is allocated for environmental protection. The project leases existing factory buildings in the park, with a total construction area of 11,295.8 square meters. Upon completion, the project will form an annual production capacity of 60,000 consumer-grade robot dexterous hands.

02. Production Line Revealed: "Intelligent Manufacturing" and "Self-Manufacturing" Dual-Line Synergy

Based on the details disclosed in the EIA report, this production line is highly notable in terms of hardware investment and technical route, centering on two main threads.

1) Intelligent Manufacturing Thread: Heavy-Duty CNC Cluster + Fully Automatic Cleaning

On the first-floor CNC production workshop, 160 intelligent high-speed drilling and tapping machines are deployed to perform micrometer-level precision machining on purchased aluminum profiles, ensuring the accuracy and consistency of the core components of each dexterous hand.

Subsequently, a fully automatic cleaning line performs clean treatment on the machined parts.

The value of this system lies not only in ensuring the yield rate but also in sending a signal to the industry: dexterous hands have transitioned from the "laboratory workshop" stage to the mass production logic of "standardized industrial products"—precision, consistency, and reliability are the hard thresholds that determine who can secure large orders first.

2) Self-Manufacturing Thread: "Robots Making Robots" Closed-Loop Assembly

In the second-floor self-manufacturing assembly workshop, 60 self-developed assembly robots are configured to gradually replace manual labor in highly repetitive assembly tasks, ultimately achieving fully unmanned production from precision machining of components to complete machine assembly, building an industrial closed loop of "robots making themselves." This layout prompts us to consider: when capacity ramp-up is no longer constrained by manual training cycles and the loss of skilled workers, the competitive dimensions of the dexterous hand industry will be redefined—whoever first gets the flywheel of "using robots to make robots" running may secure dual advantages in cost and delivery in the expected 200,000 units of shipments by 2030.

03. Environmental Protection Measures: High-Standard Pollution Control, Synergistic Treatment of Wastewater and Exhaust Gas

As a high-end manufacturing enterprise located in Beijing, the project's environmental protection measures have also drawn attention. The EIA report shows that, targeting the main pollution sources during the operational period, the project adopts classified governance: for exhaust gas, CNC oil mist and dispensing VOCs are treated through "oil mist separation + activated carbon adsorption" and discharged up to standard through a 25-meter exhaust stack; for wastewater, cleaning wastewater is pre-treated by self-built equipment (10 t/d) and then piped together with domestic sewage for centralized treatment by the Shahe Reclaimed Water Plant; for solid waste, hazardous waste is temporarily stored in a dedicated 30.7㎡ room and entrusted to qualified units for disposal, while oily aluminum chips are recycled by smelting units after centrifugal separation.

Currently, the Beijing Robot Industrial Park (Changping), where the project is located, was officially opened and put into use on July 6, 2026, serving as the northern core of Beijing's "one south, one north" robot industry layout.

Conclusion

What the EIA report reveals is not only compliance and environmental protection but also a signal: the competition for dexterous hands has entered a new phase from "who can build it first" to "who can build it well at scale." As dexterous hands move from the production line to industrial sites, retail terminals, and even home kitchens, the "last centimeter" of domestic dexterous hands is no longer confined to the grippers in the laboratory, but has unfolded into a complete pathway from R&D and manufacturing to scenario implementation.
