In August 2026, Chery Group's official exports reached 196,984 units. According to our retail statistics, the figure was 89,017 units, covering 35 overseas markets. After attributing the Tenet and Jeland brands in the Russian market back to Chery Group, Russia surpassed Brazil with 18,604 units, becoming Chery's largest single overseas market, with a single country accounting for 20.9%.

I. Where Is the Discrepancy?

Official data released by Chery Group on September 1: In August, the group's total sales reached 280,128 units (YoY +15.4%), of which exports were 196,984 units (YoY +52.1%). From January to August, cumulative exports reached 1,343,334 units (YoY +68.1%), with total cumulative exports surpassing 7 million units.

Our retail figure for this article is 89,017 units, equivalent to 45.2% of the official export number. First, the statistical bases are different. Official exports are based on the shipment basis; vehicles are counted as soon as they roll off the production line and are shipped overseas, including CKD (Completely Knocked Down) assembly, goods in transit within channels, and dealer inventories. Retail figures are based on local vehicle registrations, which naturally involve a time lag. Second, market coverage differs. Our overseas monitoring framework covers 48 markets, and this month, a total of 46 markets were observed across 8 Chinese automotive groups. Chery has retail data in 35 of these markets, while there are 11 markets where Chery's data is temporarily unavailable: Sweden, Finland, Ireland, Iceland, Luxembourg, and Cyprus in Europe, as well as India, Japan, South Korea, and Vietnam in Asia.

II. Continental Map: One Pillar per Continent

The distribution across the 7 continents is as follows:

Rank Continent August Sales (Units) Share of Overseas Number of Markets
1 Europe 24,146 27.1% 21
2 Russia 18,604 20.9% 1
3 Americas 17,746 19.9% 6
4 Asia 9,137 10.3% 4
5 Middle East 6,923 7.8% 1
6 Oceania 6,441 7.2% 1
7 Africa 6,020 6.8% 1

Europe remains the top continent, but it leads Russia by only 3,542 units: a single country accounts for more than three-quarters of the combined total of 21 European markets. The Middle East, Oceania, and Africa each consist of just one country, solely supported by Israel, Australia, and South Africa, respectively. Together with Russia, these four single markets total 37,988 units, accounting for 42.7% of overseas sales.

Over 40% of Chery's overseas sales are concentrated in just four markets.

The concentration in the Americas is even higher, with Brazil accounting for 13,369 units, or 75% of the Americas' total. Chile ranks second with 2,359 units, while the remaining four countries combined just exceed 2,000 units. Essentially, the Americas market is fundamentally the Brazil market. Looking at individual countries, Chery's top ten overseas markets are:

Rank Country/Region August Sales (Units) Share of Overseas
1 Russia 18,604 20.9%
2 Brazil 13,369 15.0%
3 UK 8,618 9.7%
4 Israel 6,923 7.8%
5 Australia 6,441 7.2%
6 South Africa 6,020 6.8%
7 Indonesia 4,936 5.5%
8 Malaysia 3,886 4.4%
9 Poland 3,154 3.5%
10 Italy 2,862 3.2%

The top ten countries combined account for 84.0%, with the remaining 25 markets sharing the leftover 16.0%.

Europe's 21 markets total 24,146 units, under the statistical basis that includes Turkey's 2,321 units. The UK, with 8,618 units, is the absolute mainstay, accounting for 35.7% of the European market, followed by Poland with 3,154 units, Italy with 2,862 units, Spain with 2,312 units, and France with 1,436 units. Germany has only 104 units. Chery's reliance on the UK and Southern Europe in the European market is deeper than expected.
