by hangjiashuosandaiban·October 23, 2026

Recently, "Experts Say Third-Generation Semiconductor" observed that multiple robotics-related companies have revealed progress in gallium nitride (GaN) products or formed new partnerships, with some securing large procurement orders.

Since the beginning of this year, the penetration of GaN in the robotics sector has continued to accelerate, exhibiting three major characteristics (detailed below). According to estimates, the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of this market size from 2026 to 2031 will reach 90.04%.

01. Joy-Moiton: Secures Order for 100,000 GaN Joint Modules

On October 15, Joy-Moiton announced that it has secured a batch procurement order for 100,000 planetary joint modules from a national-level customer, with a contract execution value exceeding CNY 100 million. The company has simultaneously expanded its production capacity, which is expected to reach 2 million joint modules by 2027.

According to Joy-Moiton, to address the industry-wide pain point of joint temperature rise, the company focuses on comprehensive efficiency upgrades across the three core units: motors, reducers, and drivers. On the driver side, the modules are equipped with GaN power devices. Compared to traditional devices, conduction and switching losses are significantly reduced, and the comprehensive operating efficiency of the driver can reach over 95%, effectively mitigating the heat accumulation caused by high-frequency operation of the electronic control unit.

Founded in 2021, Joy-Moiton focuses on the R&D of core driving components for embodied intelligence. It owns a full stack of self-developed products, including frameless torque motors, joint modules, linear actuators, and drivers, while also advancing the R&D of compliant force-controlled robotic arms and Umi two-finger/three-finger grippers.

Since the beginning of this year, Joy-Moiton's business development has continued to accelerate, with first-quarter order amounts exceeding CNY 60 million. In August, the company completed a new round of financing exceeding CNY 100 million, with funds allocated to production line expansion and upgrades, as well as product iteration and R&D.

Joy-Moiton revealed that its production capacity will be steadily released: in 2026, the annual production capacity of frameless torque motors will reach 500,000 units, and the annual production capacity of joint modules will reach 300,000 units; in 2027, the annual production capacity of frameless torque motors will increase to 2 million units, and the annual production capacity of joint modules will exceed 2 million units; in 2028, the company will complete the capacity layout for 20 million units of frameless torque motors and 10 million units of joint modules.

02. Innoscience: Developing GaN Joint Modules with Youlian Intelligence

On October 13, Innoscience announced a partnership with Youlian Intelligence to help Youlian Intelligence achieve integrated design of power, structure, and control for its Dexa Cyclo cycloid series joint modules, which are applied in scenarios such as embodied intelligence joints and collaborative robots.

The article reveals that Innoscience and Youlian Intelligence jointly developed the solution, adopting a three-phase full-bridge topology + half-bridge bootstrap drive scheme, with built-in Innoscience low-voltage GaN devices, resulting in a 50% reduction in power conversion loss, a 75% reduction in the size of the main power conversion circuit, and a 15-20% reduction in the overall machine size.

The product and technology team of Youlian Intelligence stated that GaN technology provides the industry with a cross-era main power conversion solution, offering the only correct answer for the realization of next-generation embodied intelligence joint modules. Innoscience stated that they will join hands with more leading upstream and downstream companies in the embodied intelligence industry to continuously explore and iterate GaN technology through joint development and system collaboration, promoting the large-scale commercialization of integrated robot joint solutions.

In the 2026 semi-annual performance report, Innoscience also revealed that it has delivered 465,000 GaN chips to the humanoid robot market, a year-on-year increase of 50%, achieving mass production introduction and delivery of products to multiple leading humanoid robot and joint module customers, successfully integrating GaN applications into key links such as joint driving, 48V/12V power conversion, BMS, dexterous hands, and LiDAR.

03. Infineon: Launches 100V GaN Motor Drive Solution

Recently, Nenad Belancic, Head of Application Management for Infineon's Robotics Business Division, and others detailed their progress in the robotics GaN business at the 2026 PCIM Europe exhibition.

Currently, Infineon has launched a 100V GaN motor drive reference design. This solution adopts GaN devices and a new leadless quad flat package, paired with dedicated main control chips and half-bridge driver chips. With a compact package size, the inverter can be directly integrated into the motor housing.

This solution is custom-designed for end applications. While increasing the switching frequency, it effectively reduces motor core losses, significantly optimizes overall system efficiency, and can adapt to complete equipment of various form factors.

Infineon believes that the humanoid robot market is still in its early stages but will achieve significant growth in the future. By 2050, the number of humanoid robots will reach 300 million, and the market size will reach USD 1.7 trillion. The average bill of materials (BOM) cost for each humanoid robot is approximately USD 500, including Si/GaN power semiconductors, DC-DC converters, etc.

As early as June this year, Infineon signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with VinRobotics, a Vietnamese intelligent robotics company, to collaborate in the R&D of humanoid robots. VinRobotics is an intelligent robotics company headquartered in Vietnam and has released the industrial humanoid robot VR-H3.
