In August, locally manufactured light vehicles in Pakistan totaled 15,558 units, a year-on-year increase of 10.7%. The cumulative volume from January to August reached 137,949 units, up 22.7%.

Let's clarify the statistical scope first: PAMA only counts locally manufactured vehicles, excluding imported ones. The August single-month data for Haval and Tank were not disclosed and are not included in the total.

Chinese Automakers

Chinese brands are quietly accumulating volume in Pakistan.

◎ JAC: 275 units, up 212.5%, ranking 5th. The X200 pickup is locally assembled by Ghandhara, making it the fastest-growing name on the list, and ranking 13th in the model chart.

◎ Jetour: 132 units, newly entered the list, ranking 6th. It secured its position within the first few months of launch, and the assembly line in Karachi is accelerating.

The two biggest names were absent this time. Haval accumulated 11,531 units from January to August, ranking 4th with a 32.1% increase, but its August single-month figure was not released. Tank accumulated 1,049 units and was also absent. JAC, Jetour, Haval, and Tank—Chinese brands have a significant presence in this market; it is just that the August accounts are not fully tallied.

Dewan Honri: 75 units, up 82.9%, utilizing Hongri's technology and locally assembled. Badge-engineered exports are becoming another pathway for Chinese brands to enter Pakistan.

Top 10 Automakers

◎ Suzuki: 7,633 units, up 6.7%, market share 49.1%. It still holds half the market, but its growth rate has fallen to single digits, underperforming the overall market.

◎ Toyota: 4,029 units, up 18.5%, market share 25.9%, higher than its 21.1% from January to August.

◎ Honda: 2,633 units, up 145.4%, market share 16.9%, compared to just 13.5% a year ago. The Civic alone contributed more than half of this volume.

◎ Hyundai: 742 units, down 38.8%, the steepest decline in the top 10. Despite a 215.9% surge in Elantra sales, it could not offset the overall market contraction.

◎ JAC: 275 units.

◎ Jetour: 132 units.

◎ Dewan Honri: 75 units.

◎ Isuzu: 39 units, up 200%.

Top 10 Models

◎ Suzuki Alto: 5,339 units, up 27.3%, with a single model capturing 34.3% of the market. There are few places in the world where a single model takes a third of the market share; Pakistan is one of them.

◎ Suzuki Swift: 1,472 units, essentially flat.

◎ Honda Civic: 1,455 units, up 265.6%, surging to 3rd place.

◎ Toyota Corolla: 1,416 units,

◎ Yaris: 1,139 units,

◎ Honda City: 1,098 units,

The gap among the top six is less than 400 units.

◎ Toyota Corolla Cross: 524 units, Hilux: 523 units, a difference of just 1 unit.

◎ Hyundai Elantra: 458 units, up 215.9%.

◎ Toyota Fortuner: 427 units.

A quick reminder: the figures for models from the Civic to the Fortuner are BSCB estimates. PAMA does not disclose model-specific data, so these numbers should be viewed merely as trends.

Summary

In Pakistan in August, the market grew by 10.7%, with the structure remaining largely unchanged.

Suzuki takes half, Toyota and Honda split the rest, while Chinese brands hold the fifth and sixth positions, with their volume steadily climbing.

Only when PAMA releases the August figures for Haval and Tank will the true position of Chinese brands in this market be fully clear.
