As advanced intelligent driving accelerates its adoption, in-vehicle sensors, serving as the core enabler for intelligent upgrades, are reaching a dual turning point of surging demand and technological iteration. On the one hand, as vehicles face complex road conditions and extreme environments, multi-sensor fusion has become an inevitable industry trend, with the combination of cameras, millimeter-wave radar, and LiDAR gradually becoming standard in mid-to-high-end vehicle models. On the other hand, continuous technological upgrades toward higher resolution and higher integration are resonating with the dividends of domestic substitution, propelling the industry into a cycle of high-quality growth.
Against this backdrop, Gasgoo Research conducts an analysis of the intelligent driving sensor industry from the dimensions of industrial development background, key technology status, and future trend prospects. Part of the report is as follows:
Environmental perception is an indispensable core cornerstone of intelligent driving systems. As the hardware carrier, sensors undertake the data collection function for environmental perception, serving as the front-end entry of the entire perception chain. To achieve comprehensive and reliable perception of the vehicle's surrounding environment, intelligent driving systems typically employ multiple types of sensors, such as cameras, millimeter-wave radar, and LiDAR, to work collaboratively. This enables precise detection of distance and speed, providing reliable data support for subsequent decision-making and planning processes.
Compared with traditional millimeter-wave radar, 4D millimeter-wave radar breaks through the limitations of 2D planar detection by adding vertical height measurement capabilities, achieving true 3D spatial perception. By significantly improving angular resolution and point cloud density, it can not only accurately calculate the distance, speed, and azimuth of targets but also effectively identify and distinguish vehicles, pedestrians, roadblocks, and even objects of different heights such as low traffic cones and manhole covers. In adverse weather conditions such as rain, fog, sandstorms, and nighttime, as well as in occluded scenarios, 4D millimeter-wave radar can still maintain extremely high perception stability and penetration capability. With its all-weather, high-reliability robust capabilities, it greatly enhances the safety and robustness of intelligent driving systems, becoming standard equipment in mainstream vehicle models.
In the 77GHz millimeter-wave radar segment, leveraging its comprehensive deep cultivation in core segments of automotive semiconductors including sensing, computing, storage, power, and connectivity, Infineon has launched a core component combination based on CTRX8188 (RF front-end) and AURIX TC45 (high-performance MCU), providing automakers with a flexible "edge + central" dual-path selection solution.
Infineon has built a highly integrated and high-performance millimeter-wave radar platform through the combination of CTRX8188/8191 RF front-end MMIC and TC45x dedicated signal processing MCU chips. Relying on mass-production-grade digital phase-locked loop technology, this platform achieves low phase noise andexcellent interference-rejection RF performance, effectively meeting the requirements of corner radars and long-range radars in terms of high resolution, strong detection capability, and operational stability.
